NW 22nd and Reed

Saturday morning was very quiet in this somewhat isolated section of NW Portland.

  1. I was snapping photos and sketching with 3 other friends Saturday around 11 and have a photo of the same building, the back of Grand Central Bakery. We must have just missed you. Small world.

  2. Hi Jo. Check your pictures. Maybe I'm in one. I like sketching in that part of town. See you next time.

  3. Hi Bill,
I love the clarity yet softness of your WC sketches.Any particular sketchbook/paper you like to use?
    Love the recent urban sketches.

  4. Hello, Linda. Thank you for the kind remarks. I have had difficulty finding a sketchbook with paper I like for watercolor and ink, so I've taken to binding my own books using mostly Fabriano Artistico Hot Press 90 lb watercolor paper. I've also used Arches, Strathmore and Twinrocker Handmade papers. I just splurged and bought 10 sheets from Twinrocker. I always use Hot press because it's smoother which is nice for pen and ink.

I've been hoping to get out with the Portland Sketchcrawl group, but, so far have not been able to sync up my schedule. Better weather is around the corner and I hope to join you all soon.
    Thanks for writing.
    Bill

  5. Neat to read about your papers--and I love this drawing--! You managed to be accurate, but there is not a trace of timidity--beautiful colors too!
